NNAS Silver Award: Step Into Real Wilderness Navigation

Next Open NNAS Silver Award: 23 – 24 May 2026 Killearn and Muirshiel country Park cost £160

The Silver National Navigation Award takes your navigation skills to the next level with a thrilling two‑day journey into truly wild countryside. This is where adventure becomes real. No marked trails. No easy shortcuts. Just you, your map, your compass, and the open landscape.

Across the course, you’ll learn how to plan and follow routes far beyond established paths, using the land itself as your guide. You’ll take accurate compass bearings, use back bearings to stay on track, and develop the confidence to navigate through terrain that challenges your judgement and sharpens your awareness.

You’ll discover how to identify difficult or hazardous ground before you reach it, choosing safer, smarter routes as you travel. And when the weather closes in — mist rolling over the hills, daylight fading into darkness — you’ll practise maintaining direction with precision, relying on pacing, timing, and the subtle clues the environment offers.

This isn’t just training. It’s an immersive experience that builds independence, resilience, and the thrill of knowing you can find your way even when visibility drops and the world feels vast and untamed.

By the end of the two days, you won’t just be following routes — you’ll be creating them, adapting them, and moving through the countryside with the confidence of a true outdoor navigator.
