Backcountry Abroad Backcountry Weeks
Courmayeur Courmayeur

This season, we are headed to the wonderful resort of Courmayeur in the Aosta valley. To access the fantastic piste and off piste skiing the area presents, Courmayeur sits facing Monte Bianco, or Mont Blanc very close to the Mont Blanc tunnel. Courmayeur is a very chic popular Italian resort.

Unlike some ski towns that feel purpose-built, Courmayeur retains its authentic Italian charm. The cobbled streets, boutique shops, and cozy cafés create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. After a day in the mountains, skiers can unwind with hearty Aostan cuisine—think polenta, fontina cheese, and rich stews—or indulge in a spa session at one of the town’s wellness centers. The blend of rustic tradition and modern luxury makes Courmayeur not just a launchpad for adventure, but a destination in its own right

One of Courmayeur’s greatest assets is its proximity to some of the most iconic and challenging terrain in the Alps. The Italian side of Mont Blanc is less crowded than its French counterpart, offering a more intimate experience of the mountains. From Courmayeur, skiers can access legendary routes such as the Vallée Blanche, the Toula Glacier, and the descent into La Palud. The Skyway Monte Bianco cable car whisks adventurers up to Punta Helbronner at 3,466 meters, opening up a vast playground of high-altitude touring options with breathtaking views and reliable snow conditions.

Whether you’re a seasoned ski mountaineer or a newcomer to backcountry skiing, Courmayeur caters to a wide range of abilities. The terrain includes mellow tree-lined slopes, steep couloirs, and expansive glacier descents. The region’s microclimate often delivers excellent powder, and the varied elevation means there’s usually good snow somewhere.

it is strategically positioned to access some of the very best off piste skiing in the Alps. We will be based in the Hotel Dolonne which can be found here. http://www.hoteldolonne.it

The hotel is a 16th century fortified house, which has been developed into a very comfortable 3 star hotel.

Lots of other Accomodation is available nearbye.

The skiing in this area is stunning, with many classic descents which may be readily accessed using the lift system or with relatively short skins.

Coaching and Leading will be for 6 days each week by Kenny King and Donnie Morris both BASI ski Instructors, who are also mountain Leaders and each hold the International Mountain Safety Certificate.

We may also have the opportunity of staying in a mountain hut overnight or a days heliskiing. These will of course, be optional and very weather dependent. We will have options available for consideration each week and  if booked will involve additional costs.
