Backcountry Ski Residential

Nevis4 is delighted to offer what we think is a first in the UK.

A 5 day Introduction to Backcountry residential ski course. The course will be based at the Cairngorm cc centre at Kincraig near Aviemore in self catering Bunkhouse accommodation and we will use the Cairngorm mountain range

The course will consist of 5 days on the hill coaching and leading, some evening lectures and time for free association.The course will introduce you to the skills required to ski in the Backcountry safely. We will teach planning, safe travel, weather awareness, Navigation, skinning, journeying, rope work, ice axe arrest. We will also improve your downhill skiing and teach you off piste skiing techniques

The course price includes coaching costs, hire of skis, transceivers shovels and probes. Maps and compasses. Additional costs may be incurred with ski passes depending on the locations chosen for skiing. Numbers will be limited to 2 groups of 6 to ensure a good ratio of coaching.

The bunkhouse is warm and comfortable with excellent accommodation in bunk bedded rooms, a drying room, a large very well appointed kitchen, games room, dining room and leisure area.

Please note: you must be at least an intermediate basic parrallel skier to attend this course.If you are a beginner this course is not for you. If you require guidance on this or are in any way unsure please get in touch to discuss.

We have a small number of touring skis, with diamir bindings which may be used with regular Alpine boots,  skins and ski crampons. if you woud like to use these please just ask.

Outdoor Safety Residentials

We are pleased to offer gold residentials over 5 days at Badaguish in Glenmore near Aviemore. These residentials will be under Canvas. You will leave the residential with 2 very valuable qualifications. An Outdoor First Aid Course and a Silver NNAS Navigation Qualification. These qualifications are foundation level in the Outdoor Industry but also a must for anyone who spends a lot of time in the outdoors.

The Navigation part of the course will be delivered while Hillwalking in the Cairngorms before returning to the camp each night. The Outdoor First Aid course will be delivered at Badaguish, mainly outside with realistic Emergency scenarios in an Outdoor context. The instructors on the course are all Mountain Leaders with many years experience in public and private sectors. We guarantee that you will leave the course, a much safer and more confident walker, mountaineer biker or skier, ready and well prepared to move on to further training.
